WHAT IS DIABETES MELLITUS (DM)?
Diabetes is a condition that happens when your blood sugar (glucose) is
too high.
This develops in patient with diabetes in either:
- Not produce insulin at all (Type I DM)
- When your body does not make enough insulin (Type II DM)
- When your body is not responding to the sugar lowering effects of insulin properly (Type II DM)
Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas that reduce the sugar level in the blood by helping transportation of the sugar from blood vessels into your cells to generate energy.
COMPLICATIONS OF DM
Besides the high level of sugar in the blood, DM actually will affects our body from head to toe.
Most common complications of DM that can be listed are:
- Stroke
- Blindness
- Heart Disease
- Kidney Disease
- Sexual Disease (Erectile Dysfunction)
- Neurological Deficit
- Diabetic Foot (Delay Healing Wound)
