ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION ( ED )

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to achieve, maintain, or sustain a firm erection sufficient for sexual intercourse, which may be caused by psychological, neurological, hormonal, arterial, or cavernosal disorders, or a combination of these factors.

Prevalence:

The prevalence of ED among men with diabetes ranges from 35% to 90%. ED is three times more common in men with diabetes.

ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION ( ED ) & DIABETES MELLITUS ( DM )

Why Does Diabetes Lead to ED?

High blood sugar levels over a long period can damage the nerves and blood vessels of the penis. This damage leads to difficulties in achieving or maintaining a sufficiently strong erection for sexual intercourse.

ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION ( ED ) & PELVIC FLOOR MUSCLE STRAIN ( PFMS )

Why Do Pelvic Floor Muscle Issues Lead to ED?

Pelvic floor muscles help regulate blood flow to the genitals by compressing the penile veins, which traps blood in the penis and creates an erection. If these muscles are too weak or too tight (in spasm), it can lead to erectile issues.

PREMATURE EJACULATION ( PE )

Typically, the average ejaculatory latency for men is around 4 to 8 minutes after vaginal penetration. Premature Ejaculation (PE) occurs when ejaculation happens sooner than desired by the man or his partner during sexual activity.

Why does low serotonin lead to pe?

Serotonin is a substance released by nerves that helps regulate the timing of ejaculation. Low
serotonin levels can shorten ejaculatory latency, while high serotonin levels can extend it.
Psychological issues such as depression, stress, or panic attacks can also contribute to PE.

LOW SEXUAL DRIVE ( LSD ) OR LOW LIBIDO

Libido refers to your overall sexual drive or desire for sexual activity. Low libido (low sex drive) is a decrease in the frequency and/or intensity of sexual desire compared to what you once experienced.

Caused by three factors:

  1. Biological: Medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension.
  2. Psychological: Stress, depression, anxiety, or panic attacks.
  3. Social: Relationship issues, financial problems, or workplace challenges.

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES ( STDs )

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections that are transmitted from one person to another through sexual contact, typically during vaginal, oral, or anal sex.

Types:

There are eight pathogens commonly associated with STDs.

Four of these are currently curable:

  1. T.pallidum (Syphilis)
  2. N.gonorrhoeae (Gonorrhea)
  3. Chlamydia trachomatis
  4. T.vaginalis

The other four are viral infections:

  1. Hepatitis B & C
  2. Herpes simplex virus (HSV)
  3. Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( HIV )
  4. Human papillomavirus (HPV)
