ANTENATAL CHECKUP (ANC)
An antenatal checkup is a medical appointment for a pregnant woman to monitor her health and the health of her baby throughout pregnancy. Here’s what you can typically expect during these visits:
Purpose of Antenatal Checkups:
- Monitor Baby’s Development: Check the baby’s growth and heartbeat.
- Check Mom’s Health: Assess blood pressure, weight, and overall health.
- Identify Complications Early: Detect any potential issues such as gestational diabetes or preeclampsia.
- Provide Guidance: Offer advice on diet, exercise, and childbirth preparation.
- Address Concerns: Answer any questions or concerns about pregnancy, labor, and delivery.


Common components of a checkup:
- Medical History Review: Discuss any health issues or concerns since the last visit.
- Physical Examination: Measure blood pressure, check weight, and perform a physical exam.
- Blood Tests and Urinalysis: Check for anemia, infections, and other conditions.
- Ultrasound: To assess fetal growth and development.
- Fetal Monitoring: Listen to the baby’s heartbeat and position of the baby.
- Discuss Symptoms: Address any new or ongoing symptoms you may have.
- Vaccinations: Ensure any necessary vaccinations are up to date.

HOW FREQUENT IS THE ANTENATAL VISIT
Once the mother confirm her pregnancy either based on symptoms, delay menstruation, urine pregnancy
test or via ultrasound, we suggest the mother to open book (Pink Book) for pregnancy follow-up as soon as
possible.
Suggested Antenatal visit and follow-up:
- Below 28 weeks – once a month
- 28-36 weeks – every 2 weeks
- 36 weeks and above – every week

How OGTT is done?
- Some of the mother need to undergo glucose test if noted during pregnancy the mother are having risks on getting diabetes.
- Patient should fast 8-10 hours before test is conducted.
- Fasting blood sample will be taken in the morning.
- Patient will be given glucose water to drink within 5 minutes. In Klinik Stamina, you will be given a cold flavored glucose water for a better taste and better compliance.
- Second blood sample will be taken 2 hours after drinking glucose water.
- Result may be obtained within 3-5 working days.

Family Planning
After delivery, it is important for the mother to practice family planning. Birth control isn’t just about limiting how many children you have; it’s about planning safe births for mothers and babies. With proper spacing between births, mothers can focus better on each child, promoting healthier development. This approach also lowers the risk of complications during pregnancy and childbirth. Beside
that, the family also can manage financial issue properly before planning on getting the next child.
